Playtime is the largest annual live music festival in Mongolia held in Gachuurt village located 30km outside of Ulaanbaatar. It was founded by Mr. Natsagdorj Tserendorj in 2002 and is organized as non-profit live music festival. The festival takes place on summer weekend of July before Naadam featuring best of new and established international and Mongolian live music bands.

Over the past sixteen years, the festival presented more than 500 music groups and drawn 100.000 people to the festival. The festival has grown its scale from a local live music festival to an international festival since 2013 and presented headliner international music groups at the festival including The Radio Dept. (Sweden), Peter Hook & The Light (UK), The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (USA), Mono (Japan), The Fin (Japan), Mumiy Troll (Russia), Nine Treasures (Inner Mongolia) and many others.

Across the festival site several stages host wide variety of music all day including indie, rock, instrumental, metal and electronic and house music. The main stage Playtime showcases the headliners while the New wave showcases up coming new music groups. The festival introduced Naglikhaats an electronic music stage and Replay art fair to feature local electronic music and recycled art and fashion. More than 20 DJs set the tone at Naglikhaats stage and 10 promising emerging music groups debut on New wave stage.

Playtime 2018 is scheduled on July 6, 7, 8th to mark its seventeenth year of existence. The festival will be one of the official events of The City of Happiness an initiative by the Major’s Office of Ulaanbaatar. As part of the initiative, the festival is promoting friendly, attractive and lively city of Ulaanbaatar through live music and this would mark the second year of collaboration with the city.

The biggest gathering of the Mongolian jazz music scene is the international Giant Steppes of Jazz Music Festival, which has been held annually since 2004. It is organized by the Giant Steppes of Jazz NGO The Festival’s objectives are those of the NGO – to promote jazz to the general audience in Mongolia as well as to provide jazz education and career development opportunities for Mongolian musicians. To accomplish these ends, the event combines performance, workshops and collaborative efforts between Mongolian and International musicians. Go to the festival and listen to jazz being played on the traditional instruments of nomads, it will be an entirely different experience for the jazz lover.

Every year, youth of the big city, dressed in all white, dance through an entire night to the music of Mongolia’s best DJs. Initiated by “Mongol Mix Project” LLC in 2006, Silence White dance event is organized with the aim of promoting Peace, Freedom and Unity. Now this festival is one of the biggest electro music dance event in Mongolia. Each year more than 20,000 young music lovers attend this dance movement. An unique stage, powerful lighting system and effects, and fireworks are what beautify the night. Youth dressed all in white dance through the night under the open sky. The night may be the funkiest night of each year.

The people of Ulaanbaatar gather at Sukhbaatar Square on the night of December 31st and welcome the New Year while enjoying a cultural event, watching fireworks, and having champagne together. Father Frost, with a light-blue cape, gives gifts to children in Mongolia, similar to in the West. 

The fashion industry comes together every December for the biggest event in the industry, the GOYOL Fashion Show. During the show, designers display the best of their works and choose the best collection. The top model of Mongolia, fashion trend, fashion agency, make-up artist, hairdresser, and designer will be awarded at the festival and given rights to represent Mongolia in international festivals. It has been organized since 1988.
